The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) congratulates the 29 executive officers from 26 higher education institutions (HEIs) nationwide for being the pioneer batch to graduate from the Asian Institute of Management’s (AIM) Top Management Program for Higher Education Leaders (TMP) during the K to 12 Transition years.

The TMP, a three-week leadership program, was designed to develop the participants into transformational leaders in institutional-building, academic management, and resource mobilization. The program also focused on developing new strategies for academic institutions to better cope with the low college enrollment during the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program from 2016 to 2021.
In addition, the 29 graduates—who all come from small HEIs all over the country–are expected to assist their respective institutions in improving the sustainability and the quality of their program offerings in the coming year.
In his remarks, CHED Commissioner Alex Brillantes, Jr. highlighted CHED’s initiatives to educational reform and offer HEIs various programs to help improve the quality of higher education in the country. Recently, CHED has likewise initiated an Executive Development Program under the Philippine Higher Education Career System (Phil-HECS), in collaboration with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), where senior executives are developed to manage the unique demands of leading a state university or college.

“We have brought about genuine and inclusive higher education reform. What we have today is okay but it could be better, and we have programs to cooperate and compete,” Brillantes said.
“To all our graduates, hopefully you will be able to share all your talents with our schools. You are now part of that pool that will be able to live, dream, and make significant contributions to the 4th part of the reform paradigm: we change structures, we change mindsets, we get involved, and leadership is important,” he added.
The faculty and staff graduates were among the grantees of CHED K to 12 Transition Program’s Professional Advancement Grants, a program that aims to further specialization by undertaking a broad range of non-degree courses and research activities, available for teaching and non-teaching personnel alike.
Among the module leaders for the TMP were professors Juan Miguel “Mike” Luz, Dr. Federico “Poch” Macaranas, and Edilberto De Jesus.
De Jesus, a former Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) and AIM President, challenged the graduates to put into action what they learned at the Program.
“We have just taken the first initiative for work that you will have to be doing yourselves in the many months ahead of you. And that is to be seen whatever it is you have learned at AIM and to integrate it to your paper for your respective institutional strategies.”
“I hope that with CHED’s support, you will continue to be of assistance as you go through the process of preparing for this five-year transition program to form new strategies, mission, and vision,” De Jesus said.
The graduates also expressed their gratitude to AIM and their program module leaders, and to CHED for the support, experience, and opportunity to undergo the TMP.
“We would like to personally thank you for your relentless effort to mold us as school heads, presidents, and chancellors. We had been given many things to think about as school heads in this ever changing world of academe. And when I say world, I literally mean the world because Professor Macaranas really opened our minds to that: it is not just the Philippines, it is not just ASEAN, but it’s the world,” Southland College President Juan Antonio Villaluz said.
